Merry Black Widows

Welcome back to Cherry Avenue True Crime Podcast.

I have two new movies for you, in this continued series, Based on a True Story; a true crime story that is.

Both are about black widows who chose poison.  Interestingly, they were both southern women and were operating around the same time period.  One in North Carolina and one in Alabama.

The Black Widow Murders: The Blanche Taylor Moore Story (1993)

and

Wife, Mother, Murderer (1991)

We cover the movies and go behind the movies for the true story it was based on.

The Sorceress and the Noblewoman

I have something a little bit different for you today.
I have two true crime stories that go way, way back.
One is about a supposed Sorceress from the 1300’s in Ireland, and another is an extremely cruel and evil noblewoman in 1700’s Russia. Catherine The Great makes an appearance today in one of these true crime stories. I wonder if you can guess which one.
I thought it might be nice to go way back in history and get a break from anything even close to current or present day. I hope you enjoy it.

Raynella Dossett Leath

Raynella Dossett Leath was accused of killing two husbands.  The first one was ruled an agricultural accident.  After the death of her second husband due to a gunshot wound to the head, they took a second look at the first husband’s death and she was eventually charged in that as well.  There are some fascinating developments and some jaw dropping surprises along the way.  After the main feature, there are historical newspaper clips read about other “Black Widows” from 1909 to 2003.
